Legion Cabs becomes the first Australian fleet to connect taxis to Uber through Autocab technology
Legion has become the first taxi fleet in Australia to connect its vehicles to Uber trip demand through an innovative dispatch platform from taxi technology provider Autocab, marking a significant milestone for the local taxi industry.
By using Autocab’s dispatch platform and iGo network of trip aggregators, Legion can now receive Uber ride requests alongside its existing work. This enables drivers to access a new source of demand while allowing the fleet to retain full control of its brand, operations and customer relationships.
Supporting fleet growth through modern dispatch technology
Legion operates around 175 vehicles across Sydney and adopted Autocab technology in early 2024 as part of its wider modernisation strategy. The move helped streamline dispatch operations, improve efficiency and create a platform for future growth.
Connecting to Uber demand represents the next phase of Legion’s investment in technology. The integration allows drivers to receive Uber trips within the same dispatch environment they already use, improving vehicle utilisation and enhancing earning potential without disrupting established workflows.
Autocab’s role in connecting fleets to new demand
As the enabling technology provider, Autocab acts as a key connector between established taxi fleets and modern mobility demand. Through a single, fleet-controlled platform, operators can participate in new trip channels while maintaining independence and operational oversight.
Insights from other markets show that taxi drivers connected to Uber via Autocab technology can receive up to 20 per cent more trips, underlining the potential value for Australian fleets equipped to participate.
Early benefits for drivers and operators
Kurt Murphy, CEO at Legion Cabs, said the integration is already delivering results:
“Since we began using Autocab’s technology we’ve been able to streamline our business in ways that simply weren’t possible before.
Now, with this new connection to Uber demand through Autocab, we’re able to truly progress our future growth plans. Early testing shows drivers are already seeing benefits, and we expect the partnership to be a strong differentiator in attracting new drivers to the Legion fleet as the integration is fully rolled out.”
Uber Australia and New Zealand worked closely with both Autocab and Legion to deliver the integration, navigating regulatory requirements specific to New South Wales.
Daniel Lopez, Head of Driver Operations for Uber ANZ, said:
“This partnership demonstrates how Uber, Autocab and independent taxi fleets can work together to achieve a more reliable service for riders, and new earning potential for drivers.
It is a model we believe can drive growth for operators who embrace market-leading technology, like that from Autocab.”
A milestone for the Australian taxi industry
Legion’s integration with Uber through Autocab technology provides a clear example of how taxi fleets can use modern dispatch platforms to unlock new demand, support drivers and position their businesses for long-term success.
