Passengers now have the option to book trips with a local operator via the Uber app
Uber has today announced that it is launching Local Cab in four new locations across the UK, enabling passengers in these areas to book a trip with a local taxi operator via the Uber app.
In Corby, Stoke-on-Trent, North Tyneside and Durham, Local Cab will run alongside regular Uber-operated services, including UberX, UberXL and Comfort.
Local Cab trips will be passed to Corby, Stoke-on-Trent, North Tyneside and Durham operators to fulfill, and all subsequent support will be provided by them.
Since the company’s successful pilot of Local Cab last year, the product has launched in over 40 locations across the UK.
Adrian Connery, Director at Corby Star Cars:
“We look forward to making Local Cab available to the people of Corby. We’re making it quicker and easier for people to get around the town, connecting more passengers with taxi drivers via the Uber app. The partnership is also enabling us to provide further job opportunities to our drivers.”
Waqas Yaqub, Director at Autocab Private Hire:
“Local Cab is a win-win for both our drivers and passengers. Being able to book trips with local operators via the Uber app will enable passengers to get from A to B quicker and easier, and drivers will gain access to new job opportunities – which will no doubt be welcomed with open arms!”
Kate Willits, Director at Direct Cars:
“Partnering with Uber will provide more transport options to the local community in North Tyneside, allowing them to easily book trips via app. We're hoping that the extra trips Local Cab generates will also encourage more new drivers to join our fleet. This exciting news follows on from our recent acquisition of Crown taxis in Cramlington which has expanded our fleet and geographical reach further.”
Alex Hurst, Director at Pratts Taxis:
“We look forward to making Local Cab available to the people of Durham. We feel that now, more than ever, a product like Local Cab is needed – with demand for taxis continuing to rise and passengers in need of more options.”
Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK:
“Corby, Stoke-on-Trent, Gateshead and Durham will be among the first cities in England where riders can access both UberX and Local Cab in the same app. This will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit. We’re looking forward to launching Local Cab in more UK towns and cities soon."
