As another year draws to a close, we wanted to take some time to share our experiences over the past 12 months.

Rewinding back to the start of the year, we announced our technology partnership with one of Scotland’s largest private hire operators, Network Cars. With over 800 cars to manage, we were delighted to welcome them to the Autocab family; just one of many businesses who have made the switch to us this year.

Transforming local taxi firms into global businesses

Our 2nd How to Combat Uber roadshow also kicked off in January and ran throughout 2018, with visits to various locations across the UK, including Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Cardiff, London and Glasgow. This year’s session looked at four different strategies for success and aimed to help local taxi and private hire firms in the battle against the ride-hailing giant.

In May, we continued our events season with PHTM, where we showcased three new major products;

  • Facebook Chatbot
    With the rise of messenger apps, and a predicted 4 million users by the end of this year, our chatbot provides your customers with the ability to book a journey through Facebook Messenger. And with the development of award-winning chatbot now complete, we are looking forward to launching this at the beginning of 2019 – watch this space for more details!

  • iGo.Anywhere
    During 2018, iGo has gone from strength to strength. Boasting 70,000 cars and 500 fleets across the UK and Ireland, the iGo platform has allowed local taxi companies to transform their business into a global booking platform and receive work from the likes of Virgin Tail and ScotRail.

  • iPhone driver app
    Officially launched in October this year, our highly-anticipated Driver Companion for iOS is an industry first and the only taxi and private hire driver app available on iPhone. Thanks to this tech, drivers can now use their own devices no matter what the operating system. Not only will you be able to differentiate yourself from the competition, you could save tens of thousands a year by not having to provide devices.

During May, we also returned to London and proudly sponsored mobility at this year’s ProDriver congress in Heathrow, with CEO Safa Alkateb chairing the panel discussing ‘The future of the taxi – who owns mobility?’. With Uber’s disruptive arrival into the mobility market opened the door to a whole host of new entrants. But that doesn’t mean that traditional taxi and private hire firms can’t capitalise and use the expertise they have developed over many years to their advantage.

Award winning tech

September saw the release of some new product updates, including Ghost Shadow, Olympus Driver Companion and Phantom security update. These featured a range of new updates and bug fixes – made with the help of your feedback, which we value and use to improve all of our products.

October and November were busy months for Autocab. In October, we officially launched our highly anticipated iPhone driver app, sponsored at the ProDriver North Congress and flew to the bright lights of Vegas for the TLPA Convention and Trade Show – a welcomed chance to meet with some of our US Customers.

November showed no signed of slowing down either as we jetted off once again, this time to Cologne in Germany for the Europäische Taximesse exhibition. November also started the Autocab awards season where we gained national recognition for our products. Not only were we finalists in the UK App Awards and the UK IT Awards, but Autocab also walked away as winners of Transport Tech Company of the Year in the UK Business Tech Awards, Best Use of AI/Webchat Award for our innovative Facebook Chatbot at the Engage Awards and Finance Team of the Year (6-19 people) at the Finance Awards North West. With our game changing technology and iGo network, we have helped customers compete in the battle against Uber and are proud to be recognised for our investment in our technology and our amazing team.

All in all, 2018 has been a very successful year for Autocab. Thanks to our amazing customers and dedicated team, we have completed over 360 million trips worldwide (around 1 million rides per day) and now operate in 30 countries and 556 towns and cities. We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store!

From all of us at Autocab, we hope you have a very enjoyable festive period and a prosperous New Year.
